3D Printing at Narwhal Labs

Narwhal Labs is equipped with 3D printers for projects best suited to additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.

Shop Rules and Etiquette for 3D Printing

Please collect your prints when they are completed. If you are not available and a printer is needed, staff or a shop mentor may remove your completed print to make the printer available. Narwhal Labs is not responsible for prints damaged during removal. Narwhal Labs will not restart failed prints for you. We recommend troubleshooting why it failed and changing settings before starting again.

“Not Safe For Work” projects are not okay. Please don’t make us get more specific. Using 3D printers or other equipment to make functional firearms or firearm parts is not permitted. Please do not invite controversy or legal issues into our community.

A selection of PLA is available for personal projects as part of your membership. We ask that you bring and use your own filament for larger projects and production runs. Label your filament spool so we know to remove it before another member uses the printer.

Recommended software

We recommend Cura for slicing. Other slicers such as Prusa Slic3r and Simplify 3D may work, but we may not be able to help as much with them.
Get the latest version of Cura here.

For parametric modeling, we recommend Fusion 360. It is free for personal, education, and startup business use.
Sign up for and download Fusion 360 here.
For organic and generative modeling, Blender is free and open source.

More info on Blender here.

Our Printers and Equipment

Our printers are each connected to an OctoPrint server for easy management of gcode files and control from within Narwhal Labs. Please see a staff member or Mentor if you need help connecting and getting started.
